Cattedra Eugenio Corecco
On 22 January 2019, the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano (FTL) established a new academic unit, named the “Cattedra Eugenio Corecco,” in collaboration with the Fondazione Mons. Eugenio Corecco – Vescovo di Lugano. Eugenio Corecco (Airolo, 1931 – Lugano, 1995) was a renowned Catholic theologian and canonist. He was the Bishop of Lugano from 1986 to 1995 and the founder of the Accademia Teologica di Lugano, which was subsequently established as the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano by the Holy See on 20 November 1993.
Identity and purpose
The Cattedra Eugenio Corecco aims to study and disseminate the thought and actions of Msgr. Corecco in terms of their theological and legal relevance to canon and ecclesiastical law, as well as their functionality in the pastoral field, both ecclesiastically and civilly.
The aim of the Chair is to promote research, teaching, and scientific publications related to Bishop Corecco and to coordinate scholars worldwide who are interested in his theory and work.
