Scholarships – Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano

The Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano supports its students by offering scholarships that usually cover all or part of the six-monthly academic fee.

Scholarships are granted depending on the student’s financial situation and academic results.

  • How to apply for a scholarship

    To apply for a scholarship, submit your application by email to [email protected] by the set deadline.

  • Scholarship Application deadlines

    The deadlines for application submission of the scholarships are:

    • 31 March 2026 (for the spring semester only or for the following academic year)
    • 30 June 2026 (for the following academic year only)
    • 30 September 2026 (for the ongoing academic year)
    • 28 February 2027 (for the spring semester only or for the following academic year)

    Applications submitted past such deadlines will not be accepted.

  • Documents to be enclosed with the application

    • Cover letter;
    • Copy of the letter of reference from the relevant Ordinary or Superior, to be sent to the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano (if the applicant is a seminarian, a clergyman, a member of a religious community, etc.);
    • Letter of reference if the applicant is a lay student;
    • Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
    • Photocopy of a valid document (passport or ID card);
    • Letter or admission to or certificate of enrolment in the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano;
    • Copy of certification of finances (latest available tax return of both parents if the applicant is dependent on his/her family and/or latest available tax return of the applicant and his/her spouse/cohabitant. Please highlight the taxable income on page 2 of the application form);
    • Certification of the student’s finances from the relevant Superior (if the applicant is a seminarian, a clergyman, a member of a religious community, etc.);
    • Detailed budget of training expenses (if the applicant is a seminarian, a clergyman, a member of a religious community, etc.);
    • Diplomas and exam certificates of all the qualifications attained since the high-school diploma (inclusive);
    • [if available] Certified statements of any exams taken at the Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano;
    • [if available] Annual report on research activity if the applicant is a student of the Licentiate in Theology or Doctorate (Theology, Religious Studies or Philosophy), already enrolled in the FTL;
    • [if required] Any specific documents required for the curriculum the scholarship is applied for.

    Note 1: All applications must be submitted as one single PDF file, which must include the filled-in form and all the required attachments, and sent by email to [email protected]

    Note 2: The procedure for renewal applications is the same as the initial application process.

  • Results of applications

    The result of your application (admission or rejection) will usually be notified within two months of the submission deadline.
